On October 4, 1957 the launch of Sputnik-1 marked the beginning of the Space Age.

To commemorate the event IKI hosts the Space Science Days — an annual special event for space scientists, students, and everyone interested in space.

In 2023 Space Science Days were suspended in connection with the upcoming Third International conference "Science on the ISS"  hold at IKI on November 20-23.

IKI Days Open Day was on 25 November 2023!


7 October 2023, lecture Mars Tells About the Past and the Future of the Planet Earth (in Russian) was given by Dr. Oleg Korablev, correspondent member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, IKI deputy director.

Space Science Days are organized by Space Research Institute (IKI) and supported by the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ministry for Science and Higher Education of Russia, Roscosmos State Corporation.

Space Science Days are registered as an event of UN World Space Week on October 4–10. IKI Doors Open Day is part of the All-Russian Science Festival NAUKA 0+
